well its finished, the hobbyking wing is done and power figures are 130 watts with 12 amp draw on a 3 cell 25c.esc is 25 amp so its not working that hard.maiden it Sunday and needed some trimming as very nose heavy but not much i can do as you can see in pictures there ain't no room to shift stuff about.speed is ok but was hoping for a bit more, and flight time poor 5 to 7 mins of mixed flying.if it was fast then ok or if it was slow but long flight time would be ok,but slow and short flight time doesn't float my boat.so im going to try a 7x5 in steed of a 6x5.5 see how this goes.ailerons are to flexible being epp so need some help on them.

I use a 7x5 on my swift wing Jeff and I get the same amp draw as you do now but the speed of my wing is superb, whats the AUW on yours as I get easy 15 minutes of flight on a 1000mah 3 cell lipo with extreme flying, I see your using a 1300 on yours.

auw is 360 grams.the data sheet that came with the motor states for maxim power use a 7x5 prop and should give me 170 watts.at the min its 130 watts so its a good gain.

the wing on you tube is Pete's plane im in the process of ordering my lights.but im still up for some spectating

Jeff you really want a prop adapter with a band on there m8 or you'll rip the motor off on landing
You'll get away with it on most occasions but you will snap props more often.

12.7 ozs auw you should be getting way more time in the air than that Jeff somethings wrong somewhere bud mines way heavier than yours.
Is your motor running smooth, how hot is the esc after running wot? are
the servos binding? are the wings stiff to move without connection to servos?

I'm curious m8 sorry for all the ?

yes Keith i should get a prop saver.i will get one tomorrow and a 7x5 prop.the motor is cool and esc and lipo just a little warmth and i mean a little.the ailerons are stiff but not binding the servos.you need to look at these for me as i no and you will see there not good.think some depron ones might be in order.it steers ok but theres room for improvement

A Flying wing with too forward CG is bad

The elevons will have lots of UP elevator (Reflex)
this creates excess Drag and ruins flight performance.

Do not put the Rx in front of the Batt.
in a crash the Rx can be damaged by the Batt. flying into it.

More power is not the answer, work on the CG
Either fit a lighter Batt. or move the esc and Rx outside the box
and move the Batt. back.

The aim is for a minimum amount of Reflex
by adjusting the CG
Some Reflex will be needed for Pitch stability
but the less the better for speed and efficiency

Paul

well i popped over to my locale park to see if i could launch the wing on my own as Pete did that for the maiden.well im glad its made of epp cos i failed to get it airborne.after the 6 attempts i found the best way to get it flying,if this was depron it would of been in bits as it hit the deck hard a few times.but the way im getting it in the air now seems to work successfully.i got a prop saver today.will fit it later.still not happy with it think someone needs to give it the once over.

Ian you misread I think as Jeff's wing weighs very little compared to the one you've bought.

Ian mine only ways 360 grams so its not the weight thing for me its the nak and i think iv found it.Pete's wing is a monster of a wing and we have not got it airborne yet.he is fitting a more powerfull motor.the lights are very impressive and its gonna look cool at night.iv been looking at bungee launch myself but there is little info that i could find in making one.i was wanting one for my edf jets

thats bit of weight to get airborne as well 2200 grams.i just don't like the idea of chucking it above my head using the finger holds with the prop waiting to get my fingers affraid
seen a few on youtube were they were bitten by the prop.thats way i put wheels on the parkzone stryker.the way i discovered that worked for me was to give it half power and hold it by the leading edge near the nose and give it a under arm throw.mine has that much thrust i think if you held it vertical it would just go on its own.might try it when i have a helper so im on the sticks if it goes wrong.

Jeff have you tried creating a mix on your tx so when you apply throttle it automatically mixes in elevator as you increase throttle? I used this method on my Zagi which was a heavy wing as it came in at 30 ozs.
Its easy to setup on a switch so when your airborne you can turn off the mix and resume normal flying. The wing will just climb on launch until you get back on the sticks.
Just a thought...
