Having a play around with the foam cutter tonight and as its only had minor usage I thought I'd try a little larger wing core, this core is primarily used on flying wings usually seen flying over nyc Wink
The core is 16.5 inches at the root with 7.5 at the tip and 2 inches thick at its widest point with a span of 34 inches so this is no small wing but then again if i was looking for small I would buy the mini swift. Its not perfect by all means but its a start and I know where I need to change to get perfect cores. Turn temp up for a start.

Looking spot on, not bad for a five minute wiring job and a bit of research Smile

keith,if you want a file of flying wing sections one was printed in silent flight a couple of years ago ,i could do you a copy .i also have some templates ready made for the oblix, and some for the scorpion ,from rcme . i have made lots of these myself from pink ,blue and white foam they make agood starting point for lots of designs, john( ps they are easy to cut by yourself too.)

Not really the best day for flying today so it was time i upgraded the hotwire table as it was/is way to small for what i need now, out came the saw and after an hour or so I now have myself a pretty "trick" hotwire table to play with. The bow was a quick knock up job mainly to test the new power supply but I'll make a new bow as soon as i decide on which version i want.
I intend to add a vertical hotwire cutter incorporated into the bench but as the bench folds away for storage I'll need to put a bit of thought into that one.
Table stored away

In 5 seconds it drops to this

Close up of the diy power supply

Do you want to look inside the power supply Paul I have pics

Let me guess
A light dimmer feeding a 240V transformer primary winding
probably around 40V max on the secondary ?

That's the way I would do it

Bit extreme that m8

Remember he's only cutting foam.

Rewound the primary to compliment the resonant output frequency of the secondary as it was slightly out of phase on the oscilloscope. All in all makes for a better power modulation through the cutting wire causing less drag and a cleaner cut resulting in a factory finish

Very Happy

Paul, daz is cheating he's already seen it so he knows all the doo dads and cogs i threw in the box i even measured it with a tape as the lipo was flat in my thermometer and it was putting out 10mm per minute so i should be able to cut up to 9mm epp with ease Wink

No. extreme is feeding the cutting wire
from a constant voltage source
to stabilize the wire temp.

"Rewound the primary to compliment the resonant output frequency of the secondary as it was slightly out of phase on the oscilloscope."

Now your just playing with words lol!

Ian did the flight if you could call it a flight record, I figure if you play it back you could hear the point it blew up lol.
Can you see the smoke from the cameras viewpoint or did the wind push it back over ?

The initial thrust pushed the flames and smoke to the rear of shot. Should make for good viewing though, the waters getting closer, closer, real close now................... abort, abort !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Its not a bad flying site over that way Lots of good scenery for shots and only one tree in site for miles yet daz still found it.
The new cores will be ready for tomorrow afternoon bud as I have a car door to repair tomorrow, I'm looking to get out with a few planes tomorrow down there as it looks like the casters are down at the clubsite, still it makes a good second flying spot if you remove that damn tree.

edit ...... Evening scouse
