If this idea works pete the plane should have one kick ass paint job, If it goes wrong it will be one colour probably black to cover the screwed paint work.

whats that phrase again... Razz

PostSubject: Update   Mon Jul 25, 2011 9:11 am

This has to be the most extensive paint job I've done on a build, throwing around various options for paint or tape I decided this plane realy needed a full paint job (cheers phil). The pics below dont really do the plane justice but this is my first shot at doing a detailed camo paint job and I think it turned out really well. I must also add a big thanks to my wife Cj for the assistance in the painting of this one.
Light tan base coat laid down 1st

Light green camo pattern for the 2nd layer of painting

The third layer of brown camo begins on the plane ( the wings received the same attention as the fuse)

Third layer completed

Both sections sat in the sun for a little dry time before the final layer goes on

Final layer of camo goes on and its looking the part

The almost finished plane as I need to do a few finishing tweaks to the paintwork and seal it all in with some wbp

The cabin area still needs the windows painting in and the motor mounts need a little camo touch up but thats for another day

Hope you like it, I'm quite pleased with this one.

@ Supernova I'll be dropping anything I can fit in the back m8 as little army men have been done to death on the forums Very Happy
Cheers Paul If it flys as good as it looks I'll be happy, Jeff I used ordinary acrylic paint available from boyes I just thin it down a little with car screenwash to use in the airbrush its also available in metallic and any colour you can think of... even camo lol
Pete the only part of the plane thats not camo is the underside of the wing and its only because its full of electronics and I mean full, the only electronics in the fuse is the elevator servo and the lipo I add to fly the plane, everything else is mounted in the wing including the rx and vtail mixer for the differential on the throttle.

Anyone up for building a tiny flying wing I can fit in the back and launch from a height? or do you have something that would launch of this thing already?

Pete I'll post a pic of the underside of the wing and you'll see what I mean, btw the wing is undercambered so it hides the electronics very well.

Keith. not wanting to spoil your fun
but watch the motors differential thrust ratio for Rudder

5-10% ratio should be OK for a normal Yaw effect
any more and things can get "interesting"

It's dependent on the plane's motor layout of course
Closer the motors are to the fuse. the less effect throttle differential will have.

p.s. you'll laugh but like Thrust Vectoring, motor differential Yaw control
won't work when Motors are Off lol

Yes. you can ask how I know Razz

I've done my homework on the yaw setup paul and I've seen on the tube some funny videos of the cargo plane with 100% left in, it did not end well at all, mine will be used mainly for ground steering for now.
Its dialed right down anyway, its something that will need a few tweaks when i get a few flights on the plane.
Doughnuts in the workshop proved how effective the yaw control on the motors can be.
Go on then I'll ask

"how do you know" sounds like an interesting one Question

XB70 after I fitted Yaw thrust vectoring (no rudder on this one)

A few times I found myself trying to use Rudder on the Glide Embarassed

I was also "Told off" yesterday pm, for trying to use Rudder on a model motorbike on the Stray
Throttle and steering only on them lol!

I got revenge by flying the 450 heli. over their track
and throwing a few Loops

Childish I know albino

this should be your next one. you have the skills.as you have the two already, you just need to morph them together.
