Stumax fans are quite expensive but there is a cheaper alternative with the CS (changesun) 90mm 12 blade fans which will run upto about 3kws on 8s theres is plenty of info on rcgroups.

Stumax fans £250 / cs fans £40 there is a big differance in quality but also £210 quid the stumax sound slightly better aswell. I know these edfs are expensive but gas turbine performance at lot lower price.

Its the latest comment on the video.

Quote :
Such a shame it's a blatant rip-off of the Stumax SM89-45 EDF unit. Looking at the exploded pic of the rotor almost made me puke - they copied every last bit of it, except when changing it from my version which has 11 blades, to 12 blades, their lack of knowledge of fan design shows up in the poor efficiency, about 10-15% worse than the Stumax unit.

Interesting design and cool sound

It's more a Compressor than ducted fan
I wonder if it will bring other problems like "Compressor stall"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compressor_stall

Phil will have to buy one, so we can find out Cool

edit. a little thought and I think "Compressor stall" is unlikely
as this is Driven unlike a true Turbine whose Compressor Drives

I see wot u mean ron but its alot cheaper than a gas turbine with equal performance. The cs fans are cheaper but lack performance the latest vid by bill shows the jetfan 90mm which isnt a bad price and is really efficient.

There are plenty of them out there they are just a bit more exspensive stumax dynmax ramtec but u talking atleast £300 for the fan alone. Lander sell a 127mm fan with motor for about £200 this fan was used by oatis on the gadget show edf bike sounded great.

Yeah phil it has retracts but the plane has never flown because the undercarriage collapses under the weight of the plane and the drag of the grass so it needs stronger legs or a tarmac runway.
